august 2004 - new film project starting soon: 72.gracies.org

So, what's the deal?
Well, we make movies really fast. We did it once already, we're doing it again.. Wow! What fun it is, to say the least. Quite a crazy experiment with a great outcome. (If you're new to the project see these archived details of the first time around.)

we now have online streaming realmedia files of the 48 hour movie, and more:

trailers up online: They are just over one megabyte each, in quicktime format. Trailer 1 by Jon, and Trailer 2 by Steev. Everyone make your own trailers and trade with your friends!

See this page to learn about screenings, past and future.

Please contact us if you would like to know more.

the credits for the first movie are online. Please let us know if any adjustments need to be made. We don't want to forget YOU!

The Somewhat Rapid Movie Project is another stab at improvisational, collaboratory cinematic production. The idea behind this newest venture is to involve more people, be a little more organized, take things at a little more leisurely pace, come up with an even better final product, but still maintain the spirit of anarchic creativity that ensued during the first time around back in May.

note: We are having network/DNS problems with the Gracies.org domain. If you have trouble at any point getting to this site, try gracies.detritus.net instead. Thanx for your patience!

Wow, i never thought hand-animating lightsabres was my calling. But life is full of surprises. We're off soon, i b'lieve. Lots of effort for one pulsating green sabre.

Sa 17:16 from los reverenditos (FREE GEEK unit)
I am just boogyin down at the geek all by my lonesome... Don't anyone want to boogie with me and my lightsaber?

Fr 21:54 from Lapis Swear, Lauren Pez and Whitey the Bicycle (Hip to the Credits, Yo! unit)
We're rocking out while compiling the credits. The latest version is always availible from pez@bust.com. Things that would be greatly appreciated for the credits sequence are: Helmut and the Henchman Freestyle and the Theme Song. If anyone can show/teach/work with me to finalize the sequence I shall treat them to eats.

Th 11:28 from steev (steevedit unit)
I have finished the toxic beach scene (sans effects) and the robot party scene, and i'll be working all day today on the final fantasy battle scene. If anybody is interested in coming over and sitting in, give me a call, or email: 503.BUS.KRUD. does anybody with Photoshop experience want to do some rotoscoping? it's kinda fun, AND kinda tedious! but the results are fucking awesome in the end. it just occurred to me that anybody with photoshop and the skillz could help with this. i could just give you a bunch of numbered stills of shots where we need light sabers, laser blasts, etc... also, i had the idea of using the CopyMakers badges as sort of intro titles for the main characters (the ones that are employees, at least: Stewart, Peter, Jason, Zoe). we could use assistance making these images from the original Illustrator files that jon made. anybody interested in helping with any of that, gimme a call or email.

Mo 13:00 from lavrik (clean slate unit)
I'm going down to FREE GEEK at 3 today. We won't need a large crew to set things back to the way they were.

Mo 12:16 from Anne Adams (aka "Penny" unit)
A mystery solved, and a new one opened. I've got the "24 hours" sign; I took it with me on Saturday when I stopped by FreeGeek to look for you guys. Didn't realize you'd need it for any more shots. If you do, just email me at ringtoedlemur@hotmail.com. HOWEVER! I'm not sure where my fairie wings have gone. If you know their whereabouts, please post that or email me. I miss them and worry about them; hope they're okay.

Sa 20:15 from lavrik (freekeek unit)
Shooting final and filler scenes in the CopyMaker set at FREE GEEK currently; when the lights are free we can move over to the spaceship. We don't know where the Open 24 Hours sign is, and that makes us sad. We continue looking. Shooting. Looking.

Sa 17:46 from lavrik (freegeek working unit)
The crew that was here earlier went to Oaks Bottom to shoot outdoor scenes. To find them, call Mykle. A couple of people are arriving here last couple of minutes, but the note says the crew will be back here at 7.

Sa 10:45 from steev (absentee unit)
Meet at Freegeek at 1pm - 9pm today for the last shooting day!

Tu 20:39 from jon (space-ship make-out unit)
we are currently at free geek studios and are working on some scenes in the photocopier set. there is a lovely spaceship set constructed, with a very nice, though useless, bluescreen beside it. lookin for us? try 503 xxx xxxx

Tu 18:24 from steev (superfund unit)
After a glorious shoot on a polluted beach near Swan Island, depicting an intense battle between Blot, Helmut, and the Henchman, the main mass of crew is taking a break for dinner and then reconvening at Freegeek at 6:30. meet us there for more cinematic action!

Tu 17:08 from lavrik and tseamus (freegeek unit)
While th'other crew is shooting space beings at the pirate ship, we've gone to set up a cockpit upstairs at freegeek. Tek - nah - lo - GEE. Could use a couple of spare hands. When we finish that, we hope to get some paper-copyin' footage, either at Kinko's or at CopyMaker (freegeek).

Mo 23:23 from lavrik (stcok pot/team teh unit)
Just come from teh downtown Kinko's, where the crew there is heading out to meet up with teh brawling Zoobomb crew. I'll be at funhaus/stcok pot if anyone needs to get into the FREE GEEK copy shoppy mockup: just call.

Mo 20:46 from lavrik (freegeek unit)
The set's coming together. After the zoobomb/downtown kinko's shoots, perhaps we can get a few things in here?

Mo 17:01 from lavrik (stcok pot/freegeek unit)
We're heading to FREE GEEK right now (1731 se 10th ave) to try to prepare the space. Anyone is welcome to help out - we'll be in the back of the warehouse space.

Su 18:25 from steev (preprod unit)
very productive pre-production meeting today. We have a pretty good list of major scenes now, a really good general plot line, and some really nice character sketches. we are ready to start shooting, as soon as we determine who the crews will be and which crews will shoot what.

Sa 17:38 from bengt (group screenwriting 101 unit)
I just put the rough plot -- and some of the other ideas we agreed on -- into something unified. I tried to stick with last night's ideas, adding only where necessary for cohesiveness, but I couldn't help but imagine a possible climax/finale based on the confrontation / fantasies-come-together ending everyone seemed to like. Anyway, I'll make a few extra copies of this and at the very least it will be something to start the discussion with at tomorrow's pre-production wrap-up.

Sa 09:14 from steev (Pre-Production unit)
Well, we're off and running! Last night's pre-production session went really well, i think. We came up with a rough plot outline and some character sketches, and a schedule for production. We'll soon be posting on this page a write-up of the plot outline, and details of where to meet next, so stay tuned!

add your crew'z notes to the log!
