Bedtime info@gracies.org http://www.gracies.org Gracie's presents: The Gracie's-in-Exile Post-Bikesummer Video Screening Mini-Tour PORTLAND, OR, September 12, 2002 -- Gracie's brings to Portland 3 screenings of a set of indigenously and ingeniously created short videos. The under-the-radar autonomous culture collective known as Gracie's Bird Cage has been without a physical location recently. However, the spirit and creative energy of the group have been bubbling away all summer, fueled by churning bike pedals, firewire cables, and a delicious Cuban drink called the Mojito. The madness came to a head on Memorial Day weekend when 50 or so Gracie's operatives, assorted film buffs and complete strangers came together to make an entire movie in 48 hours, from conception through post-production. Of course the product and process of this 2-day flurry were rather confusing, encompassing a dizzying array of spaceships, German hit-men, TV-starved aliens and wanna-be gods and goddesses. So some of those involved decided, foolishly perhaps, to try to explain it. They spent the next 3 months making a "making-of" documentary: "The 2000-hour documentary: the Making of the 48-hour Movie." Now they'll be embarking on a 5-night tour of 3 of Portland's small venues and 2 of 'restern (the "rest" of Oregon) Oregon's small towns in order to bring this documentary, along with the original movie, titled "Rotating Food", to the masses. In addition to the documentary and its subject, the program will also include 3 or more bike-themed shorts in honor of the recently-concluded Bike Summer 2002. Total time of the screening will be approximately 1.5 hours (whew! nowhere close to 48!) Since January 2000, Gracie's has been dishing out a fine array of free brunches, super-fast art projects, broken photocopiers and semi-scandalous parties to the greater Portland area "DIY" crowd. No one has ever met Gracie herself, but no one seems to mind. For more information about Gracie's and the video tour, see http://gracies.org/48hr or email info@gracies.org.
